In early 2012, the Westshore Alliance Master Plan Committee and representatives from the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County set out to determine the future of Westshore.
Representatives from Westshore Alliance Master Plan Committee and the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County worked with a team from the University of South Florida School of Architecture and Community Design to develop a public realm master plan for the Westshore district.
WHAT IS A PUBLIC REALM MASTER PLAN? The master plan provides a vision for the public spaces in Westshore. The plan identifies a cohesive set of improvements to streets, sidewalks, open space, etc. designed to foster new private-sector investment and create opportunities for economic development throughout Westshore.
WHY DEVELOP THE PLAN? The City of Tampa Comprehensive Plan has identified three Business Centers that are vital for economic activity and continued city success. They are the Central Business District, the University of South Florida and the Westshore Business District. The comprehensive plan includes a number of policies to ensure the continued prosperity and competitiveness of these business centers. Those policies include creating dynamic mixed use centers and attractive, well-appointed streetscapes and plazas. The development of the Westshore Master Plan is the next step in implementing the vision of the City’s Comprehensive Plan as it relates to the Westshore Business District.
WHO DEVELOPED THE PLAN? The Westshore Alliance Master Plan Committee and representatives from the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County worked with a team from the University of South Florida School of Architecture and Community Design to develop the Master Plan for the Westshore district. Throughout the process, we engaged local governmental agencies, business and property owners and representatives from the neighborhoods surrounding the Westshore district.
