The Westshore Alliance is seeking feedback for proposed landscaping and public art concepts on West Shore Blvd between Kennedy Blvd and Spruce St. The projects would be installed in 2026. The project is planned for after a Hillsborough County resurfacing project that is scheduled for late 2025.
The landscape design reflects the goals of the plan to beautify the Westshore District. Each plant species has been found viable for Florida’s hot, wet summers and cool, dry winters. The plants are supported by existing irrigation within three medians, and require minimal maintenance.
The public art colors and scheme are from the Westshore Alliance and future aesthetic plans for the Westshore Interchange. The proposed art is an FDOT-approved concrete stain on the concrete dividers separating traffic. This provides a pop of color for otherwise dull, old concrete barriers. The shapes used are the same as on the interchange and the new Westshore Alliance signal box wraps on West Shore Blvd.
The resurfacing project will include two new midblock crossings north of Cypress St, and narrowed lanes that will allow for a slower speed limit. The goal is to make West Shore Blvd a complete street that supports safety for all users, and promotes economic development.
